PLEASE NOTE THAT HSMP HAS NOW BEEN DISCONTINUED AND IN THE VAST MAJORITY OF CASES TIER 1 GENERAL AS WELL (APART FROM EXTENSIONS FOR CURRENT VISA HOLDERS)
The Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) has been very successful since it was introduced on 28 January 2002. However, it has been replaced by Tier 1 for General Highly Skilled Migrants (Tier 1 (General)), part of the UK's new five-tier points based system. HSMP visa holders are required to extend their leave to remain under the new rules. Work Permit holders and people under some other categories who wish to switch into Tier 1 (General) can also do so now.
The new Tier 1 (General) rules are in many ways very similar to the previous Highly Skilled Migrant Programme. Points scoring for age, past earnings, UK experience, and qualifications has changed very little.
To quickly and easily assess your chances of immigrating to the UK under a Tier 1 (General) visa, please use our free Tier 1 (General) points calculator.
If you are unable to come under Tier 1 (General), you will find details of other immigration categories at the main UK page.
